Capoeira or capoeiragem is an Afro-Brazilian cultural expression and sport that mixes martial art, dance and music, developed in Brazil by descendants of African slaves possibly at the end of the 16th century in Quilombo dos Palmares, which resisted for more than a century in the former Captaincy of Pernambuco.
