Personally, I'm sick of using Google's spyware emailing services for stuff like this that don't want any other email providers, I stopped using those, unless I have to, like in this scenario and I'm probably not the only one who has complained about this and it's kind of weird that anything else is not "supported".
Was there a reasoning behind that decision?
If it was to prevent alts, I don't think that would make sense as they won't force you to enter a phone number when you're making a new GMail account, as long as they have your phone number already.

You can only use the same phone number to make so many Gmail's. Yeah, it's to stop alts and spam bots.
